ENGLAND WORLD CUP 2010 DRAW ODDS AND SPECIAL BETS
William Hill has listed some very interesting odds in several enticing betting markets for the upcoming 2010 World Cup. Fabio Capello’s men will be seeded at the expense of France who actually carry a better overall FIFA ranking and co-efficient. Frankly, I’ve stopped asking questions about what FIFA does.
The draw kicks off at 1200 GMT.
Regardless, if you think you can predict who England will draw from pot 4, you’re in for a tidy little profit. Think we’re destined to face Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal in the group stages? Then you’re looking at a 13/2 payday. England will be looking for a weaker European opponent like Slovakia, Slovenia or Denmark. Greece are a tricky side, but I don’t think they’ll carry much fear for the English. Switzerland are improving, but would certainly be a welcome tie. Effectively, England are looking to avoid Portugal or France, and would take a draw with virtually everyone else. Of the “everyone else” I would likely peg Serbia as the toughest draw. If you can pick the right option, 13/2 is your odds from a field of 8 different nations.
The Pot 2 market also has virtually everyone listed at 13/2 and we’ll be looking to avoid sides like the United States, Mexico and South Korea. I reckon we can beat any of those teams on our day, but I would much rather face New Zealand or Honduras. Australia proved last time out that they’re a capable side, while Japan are’t exactly a footballing powerhouse, they would be more challenging than some others.
Pot 3 is a bit of a different deal with Uruguay, Paraguay and Chile listed at 6/1 while an assortment of African sides are listed at 7/1. In my opinion, England would like to face a Paraguay or an Algeria before a difficult side like Ivory Coast or Uruguay (who boast several quality European-based players). For some reason, I think we’ll face Ghana and that would actually be a quality match- and one that England would be capable of winning.
England’s best case scenario for the draw would be Slovenia, New Zealand and Algeria- you could probably send Arsenal’s youth team into that Group and they’d come out alright. The worst case scenario would likely be France (although that would be an absolute corker of a match), the USA and Ivory Coast- a proper group of death; to use one of the most tired clichés in football.
Remember that you can put together your accumulators on these markets with William Hill and if you guess right- you’re looking at a tidy payday! Hit two selections right on a double and you’re looking at 52/1 odds. Hit all three and you’ll have an incredible 393/1 payout.
I’d say you can put £1 on about 20 different combinations and you’re still looking at a massive profit margin. England are 6/1 (3rd favourites) to win the World Cup with William Hill. Bwin, which draws a more continental audience, lists England at 7/1.
