There are only two Saturday fixtures that actually have a relatively strong favourite and that’s the Manchester United vs Hull match and Sunderland vs Chelsea. Even in these fixtures, both sides favoured to win are actually trading at fairly solid prices and you can bank on both of the matches being popular in accumulator selections.
There are no real rivalries being contested this weekend but there are still a plethora of important matches - not the least of which is the Southampton vs Manchester City match-up that’s going to be unfolding in the early slot on Sunday. In this contest, you’ve got #2 facing off against #3 and that really tells you something about just how far Southampton have come this season with Ronald Koeman at the helm.
There is lots to like about this match and you expect that Manchester City will be chomping at the bit to get this going as they pulled off an excellent result in midweek in the Champions League when a Sergio Aguero hat-trick saw them trot past Bayern Munich with a 3-2 last-gap victory.
Southampton dropped points against Aston Villa last week and they will need a result here to show that they won’t be sliding back into mid-table. If they can keep the momentum going and actually get points out of this match you reckon that they will be up there battling at the end of the season.
Truth be told, with sides like Liverpool, Everton and Tottenham mired in mid-table then you have to assume that there’s going to be other sides stepping up and making things happen. So far this season, it’s been Southampton, Newcastle and West Ham.
