English Premier League Betting Update PT 1

We had a wild weekend in the English Premier League and there were more than a few great contests but most observers are still talking about the Manchester Derby and the match-up that may very well have saved Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s managerial tenure at Old Trafford.

City had been lined up as the significant favourites on the day and United were available at 8/1 with several top bookmakers prior to the match. There aren’t many chances to back the Red Devils at that price - particularly hot off a victory against Spurs - and they were certainly able to reward their backers this time around with a tremendous display.

It was Marcus Rashford once again who proved to be the decisive factor - winning the penalty for the opener and converting it well after it was originally not given by the referee, who actually had a good view of the incident. VAR got the call right and it set United up for another breakthrough about 15 minutes later.

Anthony Martial was able to drill past the City defence and United went into the break up 2-0 after a solid display of counterattacking football. Many observers believed that City would rally at half-time and United would, once again this season, capitulate a few goals as the match-up wound down.

Though they did concede one, United’s defence - led by a stellar performance from right back Wan Bissaka - were able to keep City’s highflying offence to just the single goal.
