While several of the top teams who had lengthy Champions League and Europa League campaigns had this weekend off, you can assume that they will come back fit and looking ready to get things off to a big start for the 2020/21 English Premier League season. 

This saw Liverpool’s odds lengthen slightly to a 5/2 margin to pull off a second league title on the bounce. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side are still favoured though their odds could fluctuate significantly if they aren’t able to get off to a big start next week. 

There are plenty of reasons to think that we could have five or even six teams challenging for the English Premier League title. The bookmakers have City floating around a best price of about 21/20 and there isn’t a huge amount of value on them on a season-long wager just yet so it’s probably best to hold off on that type of result. 

Complicating factors is the transfer window remaining open for another three weeks as a number of top clubs are still chasing some very big signings that could have genuine effects on how their opportunities will pan out for the rest of the season. Manchester United’s pursuit of Jadon Sancho has been ongoing for what seems like years and there is even talk about Gareth Bale making a loan move to United - he seems to fill in a lot of the gaps that they have right now with his ability to play as a striker and a wide option if necessary.
