Newcastle grabbed themselves a much-needed victory while West Ham and Swansea continued to show that they are the real deal - despite Swansea losing against Manchester City they performed admirably and deserve respect for giving the champions a game. West Ham have been one of the biggest surprises this year aside from Southampton and Sam Allardyce has gone from being one of the favourites for the sack to now being less likely to lose his job than Arsene Wenger - that definitely tells you something doesn’t it?
Below that we have Arsenal, Tottenham and Everton both disappointing though Arsenal have been much more so. Roberto Martinez did well last year and Everton acquitted themselves well with their 2013/14 performance but there was some contrast with David Moyes and his shambles at Manchester United that may have made Martinez look a bit better than he really was.
Arsenal are in deep trouble now, sitting in eighth and having their worst start to a Premier League season in a really long time. The “Wenger Out” voices have been around for a few years but they seemed to reach a bit of a crescendo this year with TV cameras openly pointing to some signs at the Manchester United match suggesting that Arsenal would be better off without Wenger’s services. The side look toothless and disorganized - simply trying to pass the ball into the net has always been their biggest problem.
Spurs are playing some really disappointing stuff this year and it’s now clear that the players they signed with the Gareth Bale money have not been adequate replacements by any stretch of the imagination. They have flown under the radar so much this season that many people don’t even know that they are sitting in tenth place.
