Leicester City and Aston Villa both remain in the mix at 33/1 and 66/1 respectively but it will take an awful lot to see either of these sides actually drop down to the Championship next year.
Both of the other teams competing for the relegation spot are facing relatively plum draws this weekend coming so that certainly complicates things for Hull City. You’ll find Newcastle away to relegated QPR and the bookmakers are making them the slim favourites here with a 7/5 price tag against QPR’s 15/8. The draw sits at 5/2 and that would be enough to ensure Newcastle’s safety if Hull City can’t get a point at least against Spurs.
Sunderland take on Leicester City in another fixture that looks to be split nearly right down the middle. The bookmakers are giving the slim edge to the Black Cats and pricing them at a 6/4 listing against the Foxes 15/8 price. The draw is a 23/10 listing and that’s probably about the right price for a match that really could wind up finishing as an outright draw.
Another thing to remember about the relegation race is the fact that Hull City can theoretically draw their last two matches and if either Newcastle or Sunderland fail to pick up any points, Hull would stay up on goal difference.
In regards to the upcoming weekend’s matches themselves, you’ll find Southampton going into their fixture against Aston Villa as the betting favourites to get the result with bookmakers listing them at an odds-on price of 4/5. You’ll find Aston Villa trading at a 7/2 margin while the draw can be backed at a 13/5 margin.
