However, as the situation at Old Trafford has gone from bad to worse for David Moyes after dropping points in a 2-1 reverse to West Brom, it now looks like United are the fourth favourite to win the league - while they languish in mid-table with a mere seven point haul from six games.
With Robin Van Persie out injured at the moment and the Manchester United players seemingly struggling to motivate themselves and stay organized, we’ve now seen David Moyes attempt to cool expectations by declaring that United are unlikely to win the Champions League this year.
After playing just a single game - which they won - in arguably the best match of Moyes brief tenure at United, he looks as though he is looking to take the pressure off himself.
That’s likely to be a very significant mistake for David Moyes.
As it currently stands, Manchester City are priced as the favourites with a 9/4 listing to win this year’s English Premier League, They too dropped points at the weekend, being defeated by a resurgent Aston Villa side by a 3-2 margin.
It really appears as though all three top clubs are sputtering a bit and still trying to find their feet. Jose Mourinho’s tenure at Chelsea is not exactly going according to plan either, but Mourinho continues to be Mourinho and the pressure on him at Chelsea is nowhere near the level of expectations on David Moyes.
