English Premier League Saturday Betting Preview PT 1
- By A.J. Ryder on January 5, 2015 16:44 GMTWith the English Premier League starting to look much more like a two-team shootout at the top of the table, it goes without saying that many eyes will be firmly fixed on a few of the more important fixtures set to unfold this weekend. Both Chelsea and Manchester City have matches that might be a little trickier than they would like as Jose Mourinho’s men face off against a now manager-less Newcastle United, while Manchester City can be seen playing away to Roberto Martinez’s Everton side.

The action gets underway with Sunderland playing host to Liverpool - who are very much in need of a victory here and soon-ish. The Reds can be backed at a 19/20 listing and that’s probably going to drop a bit as we get closer to the match itself actually kicking off. The hosts are a decent 11/4 and they are capable of beating Liverpool if they actually play their best stuff. Watch out for the draw at 5/2, particularly as an in-play wager if Raheem Sterling isn’t influencing proceedings.
Burnley vs QPR might not seem the flashiest fixture on the calendar but you can expect this one to be played with a lot of verve going forward. Burnley have been undergoing a bit of a mini-revival after notching an excellent 2-2 draw to Manchester City shortly after Christmas. This is an old-fashioned relegation six-pointer and you’ll find the betting market on this match looking particularly enticing if you fancy a winner.
You’ll find Burnley trading at a 5/4 margin to get the victory at home while Rangers are available at a 9/4 price tag. The draw sits at 23/10 and that is a relatively short-priced draw.
Chelsea rank as the biggest favourites of the weekend with a slim 1/5 price as they take on Newcastle following the departure of Alan Pardew to his old club Crystal Palace. Chelsea will view this one as a good opportunity to pick up all three points at Stamford Bridge and you can expect them to name an aggressive line-up.
Keep your eyes peeled for Newcastle at a massive 14/1 - Chelsea have never looked more beatable than they are at the moment. There may be a few having a bash against the Blues here, particularly if Chelsea struggle to test the back line at St James Park. The draw is trading at a full 11/2.
