We have a great big weekend of English Premier League action set to kick off the third week of football madness in England. There is a lot to like about the selection of matches that w have ahead of us right now and things are really starting to get interesting already with some fascinating subplots beginning to develop at all corners of the league.

Chelsea and their inability to win a match this season is obviously the top story and Jose Mourinho’s isolation of his medical staff may have proved a step too far for some as it simply reeks of deflecting the fact that Chelsea have not improved since last season while most of the other clubs have. 

With losses piling up to both West Ham (where Chelsea certainly should have won on the opening day of the season) and a comprehensive loss to Manchester City in a match that firmly installed the northern club as the betting favourites to win the English Premier League after a scintillating performance. 

It wasn’t just the victory itself but the manner of the victory that really made the big statement on the day as the blue side of Manchester were able to kick on and really turn on the style against the defending league champions - a fact exacerbated by the match being played on a Sunday in front of a massive mid-day television audience as the feature contest of the week. 

Sunderland have had a sputtering start to the season and it really looks like Dick Advocaat has little idea how to actually stop the bleeding here. It’s a shame that such an accomplished manager seems out of ideas nearly two matches into the season and you have to wonder whether a drop down to the Championship might have been more appropriate for the Black Cats since they could consolidate this season and move forward in better capacity next year.
