Manchester United are the biggest favourites of the day as they take on Crystal Palace and the bookmakers have Louis Van Gaal’s side floating at a very slim 1.33 price. Clearly the bookmakers believe that United’s early season doldrums are over despite them not getting a victory over either Chelsea or Manchester City.
United had Chris Smalling stupidly sent off in their match-up against City and, though they fought doggedly, they were always going to concede a goal in a set-up like that. They will be looking from much more in this fixture and if they can put a few past Crystal Palace it could be a real confidence booster.
Currently, United are languishing in mid-table, flanked by West Brom and Everton - who both also stand on 13 total points for the season. With Van Gaal admitting that it may take three years to remake United in the image that he truly desires, this one could wind up being a disappointing season.
Look for Crystal Palace at a 9.50 price tag while the draw will be rewarding at a 5.50 price tag with most major bookmakers.
Southampton have been absolutely defying all expectations this season and remain solidly in second position just four points off league leaders Chelsea, two points ahead of Manchester City and a full five points ahead of Arsenal. It’s not only a testament to the team but to the league itself and the changing dynamics of English football that not only could this so-called “smaller team” be up there pushing the big ones all the way, but they were also able to do that after selling off a host of their star players throughout the summer.
