There is plenty to like about the type of football being played right now and, following Leicester City’s tremendous season a few years back, many neutral observers think that any number of sides could pull off the league victory over 38 games.
Taking a look at the betting markets for the Champions League places, you’ll find that the bookmakers are seemingly convinced that both Liverpool and Manchester City (last year’s top two finishers) will be able to secure European football next season at a minimum. There are a number of sides just a couple of points away from each other so two or three matches where points are dropped could back to haunt certain sides on the run-in.
As it currently stands, punters will find Liverpool priced at a very slim 1/25 for a top four finish while Manchester City (despite their tough start to the season) are looking at a 1/10 price that shows plenty of confidence in Pep Guardiola’s ability to steady the ship.
Following that, however, things start to get interesting as Chelsea are trading at a 4/7 margin for a top four finish - right alongside Manchester United who are listed at an identical price tag.
Chelsea have been putting together a good run this season without being overtly flashy at any point. Frank Lampard looks to have good balance in the side and goals are coming from a number of different players at the moment. Should they be able to maintain this pace, Chelsea should be able to secure a top four finish.
