ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE TOP GOALSCORER ODDS SHOW ROONEY AND TORRES FAVOURED
Popular Irish bookmaker Paddy Power has released their odds for one of the most consistently popular pre-season bets- the Premier League top goalscorer odds. Paddy Power's odds are worth mentioning as they are, more or less, the only bookmaker that does not list Didier Drogba as one of the favourites for the Premier League golden boot.
You'll find Wayne Rooney and Fernando Torres standing atop the market, considered to be 9/2 co-favourites to outscore anybody else in the English Premier League.
Didier Drogba's odds are currently trading at around 11/2 to outscore everybody else in the English Premier League and I think that's a great price if you're a fan of the Drog. However, I think one of the biggest keys to getting a payout here is backing a player who will stay healthy throughout the season- this is why I'm not advising bets on Fernando Torres despite his formidable talent.
These three contenders are the main men here and you have to drop back to 10/1 for the next selection- Arsenal's Robin Van Persie. Carlos Tevez is trading at 12/1 and that's not a bad bet if you genuinely think City will live up to expectations. They were just pants when they played their pre-season fixture against Inter so I'll be waiting to see how that team gels over the opening weeks.
Darren Bent is an interesting outside selection and you can back him at an 18/1 price. He tends to be the focal point of whatever Sunderland do but, if he misses three weeks or more, he'll likely be out of the running.
Jermaine Defoe is priced at 18/1 as well and Nicolas Anelka is priced at 20/1- a great listing, but he's looked a bit off over the past year. Emmanuel Adebayor is priced at 25/1 alongside Chelsea's Frank Lampard.
Arsenal new-boy Marouane Chamakh can also be backed at 25/1 and that might be a popular selection with the Gunners. Steven Gerrard is listed at 30/1 with Cesc Fabregas priced at 33/1. Andrey Arshavin is listed at 35/1 with Dimitar Berbatov available at 40/1.
Interestingly enough, we've also seen Javier Hernandez aka Chicharito priced at 40/1 to be the Premier League top goalscorer- this is a price drop from 66/1. Maybe a few goals he scored over the weekend turned a few heads at the Irish bookmaker...
