ENGLISH SIDES FLOURISH IN EUROPE
This morning’s newspapers are awash with praise for both Arsenal and Chelsea as they both recorded resounding wins in their respective Champions League fixtures last night.
Arsenal’s now famous fluent brand of football was at its jaw-dropping zenith last night as they passed their way through the Braga defence with fluency and ease to win 6-0. Chelsea continued in the fashion that they have begun this season’s Premier League campaign to get off to a 4-1 winning start to their own Champions League quest.
The results were in stark contrast from England’s other two representatives the previous evening and have moved Chelsea to the fore of the Champions League winner betting market.
The Blues can now be backed at odds of 6.0 on Betfair with Manchester United at 10.5, Arsenal at 13.5 and Tottenham an unlikely 46.0 chance.
In other football news, incoming Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier has declared his interest in Manchester United striker Michael Owen. Owen, who played under Houllier during their time at Liverpool, is thought to be unhappy with his role on the United substitute’s bench – he didn’t even make the starting XI when Alex Ferguson made 10 changes for their Champions League game against Rangers – and could look for a route out of Old Trafford in the January transfer window.
In Boxing news, Amir Khan has reportedly told his Twitter followers that he and Marcos Maidana have agreed terms regarding a title fight in Las Vegas on December 11. Khan had been criticised for avoiding big-punching opponents since he was knocked out by Breidis Prescott two years ago and many believed he was trying to avoid a fight against mandatory challenger Maidana.
However, those accusations must now stop with the news that the fight will go ahead as Khan looks to cement his position in the light-welterweight division.
