The opening fixture on Saturday is Manchester City away to Stoke and the bookmakers have City priced odds-on for the victory with a price as high as about 8/11 at the time of this writing. It's going to be interesting to see how the odds shift around for that one during the build-up as you reckon there will be more than a few punters piling their cash onto City in this important fixture for both clubs.

Heading away to Stoke is never an easy prospect and it's interesting that City aren't a bit shorter for this one when you consider the access to firepower they have. There will be plenty of matchwinners on the pitch for them at all times and you have to wonder what happens if Stoke are able to nip the first goal and then tighten up the way that they usually do.

It would be something else if City were to drop points away to Stoke here and you have to wonder just how Pep Guardiola can put together a game plan to take out this organized and hard-hitting side that typify the Premier League style – one that the experienced former Barcelona and Bayern Munich man might not quite have figured out just yet.

Liverpool take on Burnley away and they were one of the big statements during the opening week of the English Premier League when they disposed of Arsenal by a relatively solid performance. The 4-3 scoreline there flattered Arsenal as they were thoroughly ouplayed in front of goal for the vast majority of the match. Arsenal have looked a bit clueless at times and even though they have extremely talented players there just seems to be a bit of zip missing from this team and they are lacking an on-field leader at this point.
