Europa League Betting Update

We are down to the final eight teams contesting the Europa League and it looks like the bookmakers think that Manchester United are in pole position to unlock the first actual piece of silverware during the Solskjaer regime.

After crashing out of the FA Cup in disappointing fashion to the likes of Leicester City at the weekend, and a top four finish in the English Premier League all but secured, this is the only opportunity for United to lift a trophy and ease the pressure on the Norwegian manager.

United have shown that they can play some great football at times this season and knocking AC Milan out of contention is no easy feat over two legs. However, knockout football doesn’t seem to be OGS’ forte at this stage. The bookmakers do consider them to be in pole position, however, and you’ll find them trading around a 13/8 best price to lift the Europa League trophy in May.

Another English side, Arsenal, are favoured as the second choice here with a 3/1 listing from several top bookmakers. One would have to think that Arsenal are coming into form at the right time and they have shown Manchester United that they can give them a game. They might be viewed by many as a cheeky second choice here at a decent price tag.

Villareal can be backed around a 6/1 margin and look good value for money there - particularly if you back them each-way to reach the final at ½ the odds. Ajax are another good side who can certainly win the tournament and they’ve been playing solid football domestically and in Europe this season. They also trade at a 6/1 margin.

Italian side Roma can be backed around a 10/1 listing and they have the players to be able to win out over their next couple of European fixtures. Slavia Prague are priced around 28/1 while Granada sit at 33/1 and need to get past United in the next leg. Dinamo Zagreb are the longest shot on the board at a 50/1 margin.
