EUROPA LEAGUE CHOAS AND TIGER AT THE BARCLAYS

Chaos and confusion has marred Dundee United’s Europa League tie against AEK Athens this evening. The Greek side were set to defend a 1-0 first-leg lead at the Olympic Stadium this evening before an unfit playing surface sparked a farcical sequence of events.
On Sunday AEK were instructed to change the venue due to the state of the pitch in the Olympic Stadium, after deliberation they then chose the home of rivals Panionios. This didn’t sit fair with the Panionios fans and they decided to vandalise their own stadium in order to prevent AEK from playing there, a ploy which worked and forced AEK to find a third venue.
So, on Wednesday morning Dundee United fans and players headed for Athens not knowing where the game would be played. Later that evening, just over 24 hours before the game kicks off, they were told that the game would now be played at the home of Olympiakos in their 33,000 seater stadium, but only Dundee United fans would be allowed to attend the game.
As a result, there will be just 600 fans in the stadium which is certain to create a uniquely eerie atmosphere. Will this help Dundee United get the result that they need? Or will AEK press home their one goal advantage? Time will tell.
Sportingbet offer odds of 8/1 that the Scottish side can use the situation to their advantage and get the win that they need to progress. AEK are just 3/10 to see things through with a ‘home’ win and it is 7/2 about the draw.
Meanwhile, over in New Jersey, the FedEx Cup gets underway as Tiger Woods takes to the course for the first time since his £60million divorce. The world number one is hoping to put in a good performance in order to secure one of Corey Pavin’s Ryder Cup wildcards, and also solidify his position as the world number one.
Extrabet make him a 12/1 chance to win The Barclays and he is 10/1 to win the FedEx Cup for the third time in four years. Phil Mickelson is alongside Woods at the head of the betting for this week’s event, he can also be backed at 12/1, whilst Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy is 14/1.
