FA Cup 1st Round Betting Tips
This weekend sees the minnows of the footballing world have their first giant killing chance of the season as the FA Cup 1st round hits our screens. The big boys don't enter the fray until round three, but for Nationwide Conference South side Yeading, an away trip to twice European Champions Nottingham Forest could be as big as it gets this season. Yeading pushed Newcastle hard two seasons ago in a tie that saw DJ Campbell earn a move to Brentford, swiftly followed by Premiership football with Birmingham City. The non-league side came pretty close to causing an upset then and are on a 6 game unbeaten run at present. However, Forest have won six on the spin and the City Ground faithful will expect nothing less than safe passage in to the next round. It is hard to look past Forest, who are flying high at the summit of League One, though a 1/6 best price with VCBet, there is no sense in backing them to win. Instead, take the best price on top marksman Grant Holt to score the first goal of the game when the market opens. The Gay Meadow faithful will hope that 2006/7 will bring more FA Cup glory for Shrewsbury Town. A memorable victory against Everton in 2003 will no doubt have evoked memories for the travelling Hereford United fans. Ronny Radford's strike to beat Newcastle in 1972 is one of the most famous goals in the FA Cup's history and remains Hereford's moment in the spotlight.Shrewsbury's home form has been up and down this season and Hereford at a best price 12/5 with Bet 365 could win and embark on another Cup run.Elsewhere, there is a reminder that the FA Cup is not all about English Football as Conference South side Newport County host Swansea City in an all-Welsh affair. The Newport side includes veterans Jason Bowen and Nathan Blake who will be looking to prove they can still compete to league standard. Newport are a value at 9/2 to win with Bet 365. Look to former Wales hitman Blake to bag a goal at anytime.
