Flat Jockey Preview
Last year's champion jockey Jamie Spencer and Robert Winston, now the fully fledged No 1 jockey to Sir Michael Stoute, head the market for this season's Flat jockey championship at top prices of 9/4 and 11/4 respectively at VCBet However, I strongly believe that Frankie Dettori is well worth a bet at 9/2 with Bet Internet to be crowned top jock at season end - the generosity of this price is reflected by that fact that Hills go just 11/4 about Dettori prevailing. Last season, Frankie appeared to have re-discovered the hunger that, understandably, seemed missing in the immediate couple of campaigns following the plane crash he was involved in, in which the pilot sadly lost his life. Dettori was going great guns in last season's race for the title when a freak incident in a sprint at Sandown where his mount Celtic Mill stumbled and fell a furlong out, left him with a broken collarbone and a long period on the sidelines. But what we saw of Frankie last term left the strong impression that he was back to his most determined best, and his enthusiasm was infectious as ever at Nad Al Sheba on Dubai World Cup day when victories aboard Discreet Cat and Electrocutionist, two horses that look set to be major players in any races in which they contest this term, left Dettori with an apetite whetted for more success. Although Dettori won't be doing as many of the all-weather rounds as the likes of Spencer and Winston, his main employers, Godolphin, have so much ammunition and I can envisage Frankie going all the way this season.
