Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Ricky Hatton Rematch - Bookmakers Favour Mayweather
Ricky Hatton starts as an underdog with the bookmakers in his un-confirmed rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. Mayweather is reported to be coming out of retirement and has approached Hatton's camp for a rematch. The last time they met, Mayweather had ended the bout in under ten rounds with a devastating left hook. This has led to UK bookmakers Skybet and Betfred offering odds on the fight if it was to happen anytime. Both bookmakers make Mayweather odds-on favourite to win the bout again. Hatton's lawyer Gareth Williams said Mayweather Jr, who retired after the bout with Hatton in December last year has approached them. He also mentioned that Ricky Hatton was more keen in fighting Manny Pacquiao. "The fight we want to make, our preference, is Manny Pacquiao because that is a great fight," Williams said. "Ricky has made no secret of the fact he wants to take on the best and Pacquiao is regarded as the best. "We're more than happy to make that fight but it has got to be on acceptable terms." "He's not talked to us at all. We're happy to fight Pacquiao but it has to be on our terms," said Williams." "We won't be bullied or forced into any decision that is not on our terms." "We've had no contact whatsoever with him. That is the fight we want to make but we've got other options, we will do what is best for us." Hatton's father Ray confirmed they had been "sounded out" by a third party on behalf of Mayweather. It hasn't come from us because we just took it as what it was, a third party sounding us out," he told Sky Sports News. Sky Bet have come out with odds of 1/3 in favour of Mayweather Jr. while Ricky Hatton is at 9/4 with a draw at 25/1. Sky Bet's boxing compiler Scott Springgay said: "The last fight was a one-sided affair, with Mayweather taking full control." "However, this time round with the possibility of this mega-fight being at Wembley and a rejuvenated Hatton coming off the back of a superb performance against Malignaggi, Ricky could be in with a chance of winning." "It will be one of the biggest fights in British boxing history if it does go ahead." Betfred are more on the side of Mayweather Jr. and do not see him loosing this rematch if it were to happen. Betfred spokesman Dave Metcalf said: "Hatton was no match for Mayweather last time they met, and there is no possible reason to believe the outcome would be different if the rematch went ahead. "If it did then Mayweather would be a rock solid 1/4 shot and Ricky would be 5/2 to gain his revenge." "However, it is widely believed that the pride of Manchester wants to negotiate a lucrative bout with Manny Pacquiao in the spring, and that looks a far more logical route for him to take rather than face up to Mayweather again." "If that fight does get the go-ahead then Ricky would be a 13/8 shot with us."
