Football Betting: Domestic Weekend Preview
IT's derby weekend, what with Rangers and Celtic going head-to-head up in Scotland, and Liverpool and Everton battling it out on Merseyside. Even if you look further afield, even Oxford and Cambridge are at it in the Boat Race this weekend and punters can get stuck into the derby action with relish. Bet here on all the weekend football with Canbet Rangers have won their last 11 league matches, and considering they have a three-point advantage with a game in hand in the Scottish Premier League, it is no surprise that the Gers are favourites at Ibrox. Rangers trade at 6/5 with Canbet, but you can get 2.38 on Betfair, and since Walter Smith returned as manager at Rangers, he has won all three Old Firm derbies. This season, Celtic have been the best team on the road in the SPL winning 11 of their 15 fixtures and they haven't been beaten away from Celtic Park this calendar year in the league. Their 3-0 thumping of troubled Gretna last time out however, masks what can only be described as a slump for Gordon Strachan's men though - that win was their first in five games - a worry ahead of such a crucial fixture. Celtic know that there are still two Old Firm derbies to play at Celtic Park after this weekend's clash and that knowledge may play into Rangers' hands this time around. Celtic may set out their stall with the mindset of not getting beaten, rather than going out to win, and with Rangers in such goof form, that could spell disaster for Strachan's side. Liverpool fans are still to get over their stomach-wrenching loss to Manchester United last weekend, as well as Javier Mascherano's sending off, and they'll have to pick themselves up off the canvas quickly if they are to stop high-flying Everton from nicking a win at Anfield. Liverpool sit fourth, just two places above the Toffees and this clash is unlikely to see any quarter given. The bookmakers don't expect an upset mind you and The Reds are 3/4 with Canbet, while their rivals are as big as 41/10 in a place. Neither side have been in particularly sparkling form of late, but with both sides desperate not to lose, a draw may be the order of the day. With almost half of Everton's away games featuring just two goals this season, perhaps a 1-1 scoreline would be a worthy wager. Verdict: 2pts Rangers @ 6/5 (Canbet) 1pt draw Liverpool v Everton @ 13/2 (Centrebet)
