Football betting: England Euro 2008 odds
Following Israel's last-gasp victory against Russia, England are 1/8 to qualify for the Euro 2008 finals, according to Ladbrokes, and 8/1 to win next summer's tournament. Israel rewarded patriotic punters in England who had backed the Israeli's to avoid defeat against Guus Hiddink's men in their Euro 2008 qualifier. Israel were a top-price 6/1 to beat Russia but a stirring display and a late Omer Golan goal saw off the visitors and left England back in control of their Euro 2008 qualifying destiny. Ladbrokes spokesman, Nick Weinberg, said: "We saw a patriotic plunge on Israel and the backers who never stopped believing have got their reward. Surely not even England can fail to get the point they need against a Croatia side who have already qualified." Ladbrokes have reported sustained support for England to now go on and win Euro 2008 following Saturday's favourable result. The Harrow-based firm have cut the Three Lions, from 20/1 to 8/1 to win next summer's event in Switzerland and Austria as punters have been quick to back their boys. "England are obviously in a much better position than they were prior to the weekend's fixtures. But even after the 20/1 disappeared Three Lions fans wanted to back McClaren's men for Euro glory. The patriotic punt is well and truly back on track," Weinberg added. England are 1/12 to qualify for the finals and 1/2 with Ladbrokes to win Wednesday's crucial game against Group E leaders Croatia at Wembley. After Scotland's exit at the hands of Italy, Alex McLeish is 11/10 not to be in charge of the side for the start of their 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign. "There are bound to be plenty of clubs eyeing up McLeish given what he's achieved with Scotland," Weinberg said.
