Football betting: Uefa Cup - Thursday action
Tottenham and Bolton are among the teams in Uefa Cup action tonight with both Premier League sides facing tricky ties. Tottenham are away at Slavia Prague who, at first glance, look to be relatively straightforward opponents. This was, after all, the same side that was thrashed 7-0 by Arsenal in the Champions League in the autumn. Slavia are also top of an improving Czech top-flight and will be no walkovers in Prague. Spurs though are a side transformed under Juande Ramos. Unlucky not to beat Manchester United ten days ago they are climbing back up the table thanks to the goalscoring feats of Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane and the improved tactical organisation under their Spanish coach. Tottenham might have only won two away matches out of their last eight but that run included two trips to Arsenal and visits to Manchester United, Everton and Aston Villa. Michael Dawson is out but with Jonathan Woodgate marshalling the rearguard and Paul Robinson out of the picture, a newly-solid Spurs can expect to edge this match by a narrow margin. Bolton are never easy to beat at home but they face an Atletico Madrid who have won all but one of their seven European matches this term. Since their only blip of the campaign - a 3-3 draw with in-form Lokomotiv Moscow in icy Russia - the Mattress Makers (for that is their nickname in sunny Spain) have proven a worthy pre-season tip at 16/1. That price has long gone but they can be trusted to overcome Bolton at the Reebok, in spite of the hosts' recent improvement under Gary Megson. The Trotters have held Bayern in Germany, beaten Crvena Zvezda in Belgrade and even humbled Manchester United at home this term. However, when they sold Nicolas Anelka to Chelsea last month they effectively threw in then Uefa Cup towel. Bolton have managed just three goals in their last six matches - and Megson has made no secret of making Premier League survival his No1 priority. For their part Atletico are flying high in fourth place in the Primera Liga and although they have struggled of late away from home, the 2-0 win at sixth place Racing Santander will have boosted confidence, particularly that of Diego Forlan, who scored twice in that match. The Spaniards will miss the suspended Raul Garcia and in-form teenage striker Aguero is doubtful but they should just shade a hard-fought contest. Injury-struck Aberdeen host Bayern Munich on Thursday in the greatest non-contest of the evening. The Dons have done incredibly well to get this far but has a raft of key players on the treatment table. Richie Byrne, Richard Foster, Jackie McNamara, Derek Young and Jamie Smith are all out while Barry Nicholson, Zander Diamond and Darren Mackie are facing a race to be fit in time. Bayern are flying high in the Bundesliga and will have no problem felling Jimmy Calderwood's side, who were thrashed 5-1 by Celtic at the weekend.
