Football latest: Champions League - Arsenal vs Liverpool

Part one of the Arsenal v Liverpool trilogy gets under way on Wednesday, with the Emirates leg of the Champions League clash first up (live on Sky Sports 2) providing several interesting bets with Blue Square. Arsenal have the benefit of having had an extra day to recover from their weekend travails, although the Gunners will have needed every minute of that extra rest day to recuperate after having played for most of their match at Bolton on Saturday with 10 men following the dismissal of Abou Diaby. The fact that they came back from 2-0 down in monsoon conditions with a man less than their relegation-threatened opponents says much about Arsenal's determination and cavalier spirit - and the Londoners will have renewed belief after ending their worst run of domestic results in nine years. Nonetheless, they meet a Liverpool side in fantastic form, following eight wins in nine matches. Admittedly, Rafa Benitez's side were humbled 3-0 by Manchester United ten days ago, but that was a performance stilted by both the dismissal of Javier Mascherano and the largely defensive tactics employed by United, whose packed midfield suffocated the life out of their north-west rivals. Were Wenger to employ similar tactics tonight in this Champions League match-up, his young side might find a way past Liverpool but Wenger prefers a more offensive approach, and this has begun to expose Arsenal's fragile defence in recent weeks. Didier Drogba exposed the Gunners' aerial weakness in Chelsea's 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge recently - and after 11 goals in 10 matches Fernando Torres, himself as powerful with his head as he is his feet, should have no trouble finding a way past a now unconvincing trio of William Gallas, Kolo Toure and Manuel Almunia. Blue Square's 11/1 about the Spaniard scoring a header looks worth a cheeky punt. The result of this Champions League tie is tricky to second guess as there is little to choose between the two sides. Arsenal have only failed to score on four occasions this season, while the Reds' impressive defeat of arch rivals Everton on Sunday coupled with the excellent form of Steven Gerrard and Torres suggest there will be goals at both ends. Arsenal have drawn five of their last eight matches and it would be no surprise if the two sides shared the same 1-1 scoreline they produced earlier in the season, before resuming hostilities in the Premier League in London on Saturday and yet again in the Champions League at Anfield next week. Verdict: 2pts draw @ 2/1 (Blue Square); 2pts Fernando Torres to score at any time 13/8 (Blue Square); 2pts correct score 1-1 @ 11/2 (Blue Square); 1pt Torres to score a header @ 11/1 (Blue Square) Click here for a free £25 to bet on Arsenal vs Liverpool from Blue Square Blue Square, one of the leading online bookmakers is offering a FREE £25 Bet for Betting Choice users.
