Football odds: Champions League - Fenerbahce vs Chelsea
Chelsea may be on a run of decent form just now but Betfair's 4.4 about them coming unstuck against Fenerbahce on Wednesday night in the Champions League quarter-final (live on Sky Sports 3, 7.45pm) is simply too good to miss. However, despite dominating for long spells on Sunday, the Blues rode their luck against Middlesbrough, as they clung on for a 1-0 win in a frantic final 12 minutes during which Carlo Cudicini's woodwork was struck no fewer than three times. Cudicini is a curious goalkeeper. Having been forced to live in the shadow of Petr Cech, who is still injured, for the last three seasons he will inevitably suffer by comparison to the Czech custodian, even if the Chelsea No 1 has himself been below par this season. Cudicini is an excellent shot-stopper but he is far from convincing on set-pieces, which produced three goals for Tottenham in the recent 4-4 draw at White Hart Lane. He can raise panic among his defenders with his mad rushes out of goal, one of which would have cost his side a goal on Sunday had Afonso Alves hit the target rather than the post after the Italian came fully 40 yards off his line before missing the ball completely. Of course Chelsea are about much more than stopping goals and the return of Frank Lampard will boost their Champions League goalscoring prospects in Istanbul. Didier Drogba is back in form and Nicholas Anelka will be desperate to score against his old side. However, Chelsea have not been faring too well away from home of late. They have been held to draws at both Schalke and Olympiakos in the Champions League, and have managed only two wins from their last seven matches away from Stamford Bridge. And lest we forget, there is an opposition to take into account here. They may be little known on these shores but it's worth highlighting that Fenerbahce have lost just once at home all season and have a 100 per cent home record at their intimidating Sükrü Saraçoglu stadium in the Champions League this term. Inter Milan, PSV Eindhoven, CSKA Moscow and Seville have all been beaten in Istanbul. The second leg in London will be a wholly different prospect but Fener should be respected in their own back yard. Zico's men, who boast the likes of Roberto Carlos, Stephen Appiah and former Chelsea playmaker Mateja Kezman, are flying high after an away win at Besiktas at the weekend and with Alex scoring three times in the last two matches an upset would not even be worthy of its name. The advantage of betting with Betfair is that by laying Chelsea you stand to win whether it's a draw or an away win. But 4.4 is also a price too tempting to pass aside. Verdict: 3pts lay Chelsea at 2.2 (Betfair); 2pts Fenerbahce to win @ 4.4 (Betfair) Click here for a free £25 to bet on Fenerbahce vs Chelsea from Betfair Betfair is the world's leading betting exchange and licensed bookmaker in the UK.
