A number of extremely expensive players are going to be on the move and several of the biggest clubs in Europe have already declared their intentions to break the bank in order to retrieve that star striker or goalkeeper.
Some clubs have already started acquiring new players with Manchester United making a big statement by shoring up the signature of Dutch hit man Memphis Depay from PSV Eindhoven two weeks ago. He joins a long list of Holland internationals who are flocking to United to play under their talismanic manager Louis Van Gaal - who damn near won the World Cup last year with his charges.
United have already made their intentions clear and they should be involved in plenty of dealings this summer with club officials all seemingly insisting that money is there to spend and will be spent - particularly with the side finishing fourth and still needing to play their way into the Champions League. They will obviously be hoping for an easy draw against this tough lineup of potential opponents but with a few blockbuster signings they might be able to put together the type of side they need to truly challenge for greatness.
The big issue was that United have already made blockbuster signings - particularly in Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao (though that wasn’t technically a signing) - and they simply haven’t worked out. Falcao literally waved goodbye to the United fans on Sunday and will likely not be seen at Old Trafford again.
