FREE HORSE RACING TIPS: LONGCHAMP AND NEWMARKET ON OCTOBER 2
We’ve got a number of top-class races kicking off this weekend and we’re taking a look at some of the high-level flat racing action for Saturday, October 2nd. While the odds are not available on every race we’ll be giving you a few ideas of just how we expect things to shape up. We will be examining Group 2 and Group 1 races or their equivalents.
At Newmarket on Saturday, we’ve got the 3:00 Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes and that’s a Group 1 clash for fillies and mares going 1m. There are a number of talented contenders here, but no clear out-and-out favourite. Sahpresa (Sahm) comes off a Group 3 win at Longchamp and she trades alongside Music Show (Noverre) at a 4/1 price. We’ll be betting against those two and backing Sir Michael Stoute’s STRAWBERRYDAIQUIRI (Dansili) who boasts a strong Canadian bloodline and is coming off two solid runs at Group 1 level. She finished fourth in this race last year and still hasn’t scored in Group 1 action, but if she can get to the front early and set a solid pace then she’s the one to beat at 6/1 with most major bookmakers. Try William Buick aboard Alsace Lorraine (Giant’s Causeway) if you’re looking for a long shot.
The 2:40 at Longchamp sees a Group 2 clash in the Qatar Prix Chaudenay, which goes a lengthy 1m7f on the grass. Most of these contenders are coming off the listed circuit and a few hold Group 3 victories under their belts. We’ll be siding with BRIGANTIN (Cozzene) for this one as her recent record has been excellent and she boasts a course and distance reference. The mysterious Irish Song (Singspiel) is an outside contender.
The 3:15 at Longchamp is the NYSE Euronext Prix De Royallieu and that’s a Group 2 encounter for 3 year-old fillies and mares. This is definitely a tricky one with a lot of noticeable drops in class and you reckon that undefeated runner Announce (Selkirk) is going to take a fair amount of money and she’s tested at course and distance. We’ll be siding with SHAMANOVA (Danehill Dancer) here as she was a beaten favourite last time out and shows plenty of acumen over the distance. She has finished second three times in a row but some of those places were extremely tight. She should progress and get the score here.
The 3:50 Qatar Prix Dollar is a grassy 1m1f contest for three year-olds and up. There is some serious pan-European talent here with seasoned veterans from Italy, Germany, France and the UK set to do battle. We’re going to be siding with ZAZOU (Shamardal) in this one as he drops down from places in two Group 1’s against some very talented opposition. He is proven at the distance and has shown solid tactical speed by winning in a variety of ways. Budai (Dai Jin) is a solid four year-old gelding who ships in from Baden-Baden. He’ll be looking to progress after a pair of Group 3 scores.
A Group 2 clash awaits in the 4:25 Qatar Prix Daniel Wildenstein, which is a 1m dash on the turf at Longchamp. Respected runner Elusive Wave (Elusive City) ships in fresh off a victory at Deauville and she’s acquitted herself well recently and could be a plausible winner here. Royal Bench (Whipper) is well-weighted for this one and has shown acumen over the Longchamp grass before. We’ll be opting for Godolphin’s EMERALD COMMANDER (Pivotal) for this one and he is a major threat if he breaks well.
