FREE TIPS FOR QUEEN ELIZABETH II STAKES AT ASCOT ON SEPTEMBER 25
The biggest race on Saturday's card at Ascot is, without a doubt, the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes.
This is going to be a tricky 1m contest and we've got eight contenders but only three of them look potential winners. Since the withdrawal of Canford Cliffs (Tagula) we've seen the price on Makfi (Dubawi) bottom out and the Delzangles-trained colt is available at an odds-on price of 5/6 with most major bookmakers.
Makfi's got one of the best last-race references that one could ask for- having beaten seasoned veteran Goldikova (Anabaa) at Deauville over the distance. It's interesting as the ground was extremely soft that day and the Ascot surface is expected to be good to soft on Saturday.
Rip Van Winkle (Galileo) looks like the most able challenger to Makfi and you reckon that Rip's tactical speed gives him a few more options than Makfi possesses. He was a beaten favourite last time out by Cape Blanco (Galileo) but he should bounce back well.
You can lock in an 11/4 price on Rip Van Winkle.
Poet's Voice (Dubawi) is Godolphin's entry here and he'll need to progress big-time on his first step up to Group 1 level. He collared Main Aim (Oasis Dream) in the Group 2 Celebration Mile at Goodwood (though there were only four running in that one) and that was on the switch back to Frankie Dettori from Ted Durcan.
We'll be playing Rip Van Winkle over Makfi and you can expect Hearts of Fire (Firebreak) to run on late here if given a clean trip to take the third spot.
