FRENCH OPEN BETTING CAN ISNER SERVE UP WIN OVER BERDYCH
American John Isner aims to serve up a win over Tomas Berdych when they go-head-to-head in the third round of the French Open today.
The 6’9” American comes up big with William Hill bookies that are after listing him large of Evens, at 13/8 while Berdych is tipped at 4/9 fave odds. Clearly, a win by Isner would be a noteworthy upset.
Lifetime the pair are level 1-1 with Berdych owning the most recent victory over Isner, a 16, 6-1, 7-6(4) win at the World Team Championships last week.
Berdych should have confidence on the back of that win. He already has the surface edge. Berdych is the better bet but Isner is not a bad bet either. In the best-of-five, this match should be more compelling and tighter than the tennis betting line suggest.
The French Open match betting market at William Hill also features other standout options in Mikhail Youzhny vs. Viktor Troicki and Stanislas Wawrinka vs. Fabio Fognini.
Youzhny is trading at firm favourite odds of 2/5 while Troicki comes in as the mere 7/4 puppy. Youzhny is the better play overall because he is the more versatile player of the two and he has the surface edge over the Serbian.
Theoretically, a win by Troicki is not off the cards at that price. I can’t say I see it happening though – only if Youzhny suffers a lapse in concentration.
Wawrinka is a hot 1/9 favourite over Fognini at 5/1 but this matchup might not be as cut-and-dry as the market would suggest. Fognini outlasted Monfils in an epic five-set marathon, spanning two days.
The Italian is an unassuming clay-courter who doesn’t always punch above his weight class but he did against home fave Monfils. That performance should give him confidence for his upcoming clash against Wawrinka. Might he have enough left for another upset?
