FRENCH OPEN BETTING MURRAY AIMS TO AVOID ANOTHER SCARE IN PARIS

Andy Murray got off to a rough start at the French Open, slipping to two sets to love to Gasquet and staring imminent defeat in the face before clawing his way back into the match to win in five-sets.
There was a bit of the Déjà vu: shades of Murray vs. Gasquet, Wimbledon 2008. To say the Parisian re-match was as riveting would be an overstatement. So too would be saying Murray was as heroic in comeback.

There was none of that Neanderthal bravado, howling and bicep flexing that had been on display at the All England Club when the pair collided two years ago in the last 16 and Murray staged a dramatic comeback from a two-set deficit, with match-points to Gasquet even, to the delight of British fans.
The French Open case was markedly different. Gasquet became visibly weary towards the tail-end of the third set – his successful Nice campaign of last week and all the matches he played there most likely catching up with him.
This is not to take anything away from Muzz – kudos for the win indeed, especially as many had him a goner in the third set. Just keeping things in perspective.
Murray is set to take on Juan Ignacio Chela in the second round today, what should be a much easier matchup for the Brit.
Murray has a winning record over Chela, which includes a recent win over the Argentina in Madrid. Overall, Murray is 5-1 against Chela and 1-0 ahead in 2010.
William Hill bookmakers are confident (so it would seem) Murray will secure a place in the French Open third round at the expense of Chela. The tennis betting line on offer is simply one-sided, Murray is a solid 1/10 bet while Chela a large 11/2 bet.
Where set betting is concerned bookies seem to favour a three set affair, tipped at 8/15 irrespective of the winner. Four-set win is going for 21/10 while five sets are listed at 11/2.
Murray is favoured at 4/7 to win in straight sets and slightly on the larger side of Evens to win in four or five, 11/4 and 9/1 respectively.
Chela by contrast is a stretch to win in straights, listed at 28/1 but gradually cheaper to win in four or five sets, 16/1 and 10/1 respectively.
This match should pass without too much drama and fuss. Murray to win seems the more reasonable bet and to do so in more convincing fashion than his opening account as well.
