Galatasaray vs Manchester United Champions League Preview

Manchester United are in the unfamiliar position of distinct underdogs as they head over to Turkey to take on Galatasaray in a reenactment of the legendary 0-0 encounter they had there several decades ago. Always a difficult place to travel, United will be buoyed by the fact that they have already secured progression to the next stage of the Champions League and they have already shown that they may not be completely going for this one as Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie both remain in England as the group travels to Turkey.

The bookmakers have been busy today, trimming Galatasaray to 10/11 from their even money price they had been floating at for some time. Manchester United are available at an 11/4 price tag to get the crucial away win - with what looks likely to be a second-choice forward line.
However, that shouldn’t really concern too many people considering the fact that (Norwich game aside) Javier Hernandez has been playing extremely well and scoring goals for fun. Danny Welbeck will also be given a shot up front for this one and he has a real habit of scoring scrappy, athletic goals.
The draw is available at 11/4 and there’s every chance that the match could end in a draw - especially if Galatasaray underestimate the performance United are going to put in. Unless you see a genuinely unrecognizable teamsheet from Sir Alex, you should probably assume United are coming out to give them a proper game.
William Hill are offering up some sweet headline offers on this one. Galatasaray’s high-flying goalscorer Umut Bulut to score and the Turkish side to get the home victory pays off at a solid 3/1 while Danny Welbeck to score and Manchester United to win pays off at an 8/1 price tag.
Umut Buluz and Burak Yilmaz are expected to be the main threats in front of goal but don’t undestimate Johan Elmander or Milan Baros either. Both are at 7/4 to score anytime.
Chicharito is trading at 15/8 to grab an anytime goal while Welbeck is 11/4 to score at virtually any point in the match. Joshua King is expected to make an appearance and he’s also at 11/4. Federico Macheda (remember him?) trades at 7/2.
If you’re looking at the double result, why not try backing Man Utd/Draw at a hefty 14/1 price? That’s more than plausible - with United getting out of the gates shortly before half-time to take a 1-0 lead into the break. then the match finishes either 1-1 or 2-2?
Stranger things have happened.
