GERARD HOULLIER SET FOR NEXT ASTON VILLA MANAGER JOB: BETFAIR
After a long winding road on the Betfair exchange market for Next Aston Villa manager, it looks like we're finally ready for a resolution and anybody looking to take some very short odds on Gerard Houllier is in for some free money.
Gerard Houllier's odds to be named Next Aston Villa manager are trading at 1.12 at the time of this writing, down from the 2.6 or so he was listed at on Thursday.
BBC Sport is confirming that they "understand" Houllier is set to be named as the head of a three-man management team that does involve current interim manager Kevin MacDonald.
MacDonald is trading at 12.5 to be named manager while Alan Curbishley's odds have drifted to 27.0. Sven Goran Eriksson still can't secure that Premier League post that he's been pining for and he's priced at 200.0 to take over at Villa.
Everton's David Moyes had been mentioned and he even saw a dramatic price drop as some punters thought he was ready to walk out on Everton. I think Moyes is too proud of the work he's done there to cut it short for what would be a lateral move. He's 48.0 to take the Villa job now.
Bob Bradley's name had been bandied about for the post and he was the original favourite to take the helm. I think his lack of Premier League experience ruled him out, but being linked to the Fulham and Villa gigs probably helped him secure a better contract as American manager.
It will be interesting to see how Villa do under the Houllier era. I think he's a great addition to the Premier League and I reckon he's a big enough name with a big enough track record to give confidence to the Villa faithful.
Villa travel to Liverpool on December 4th for what now looks to be a very intriguing fixture.
