Germany keep Euro 2008 campaign on track
The Republic of Ireland are a force to be reckoned with on home soil but will be crying into their Guinness when their Euro 2008 dreams are shattered by the German football team on Saturday. Steve Staunton's side are unbeaten in Dublin but their campaign has come unstuck over the last two away matches after a 2-2 draw in Slovakia and defeat to the Czech Republic. The hosts will be relieved that Miroslav Klose is out but his absence could see the emergence of the most impressive set of strikers since Baywatch first hit the airwaves. Mario Gomez, Kevin Kuranyi, Lukas Podolski and Stefan Kiessling are all lethal marksmen who will be looking to impressive coach Joachim Low. Eire will suffer for the withdrawal of Stephen Ireland and the Germans, who welcome back Clemens Fritz, and Torsten Frings, will simply be too good for them. Take the evens while you still can. After improved results of late Iceland are excellently-priced to overturn struggling Group F also-rans Latvia. Iceland are hardly taking the section by storm and are only two points ahead of Saturday's opponents. However, Eidur Gudjohnsen and co surprised Northern Ireland in Reykjavik last time out and held Spain to a goalless draw in their previous football match. Latvia did beat Iceland 4-0 in their last home fixture but are so poor away from home they've even lost to Liechtenstein on their travels. Denmark have absolutely nothing to lose when they take on Group D leaders Spain this weekend. The Dane's Euro 2008 campaign came unstuck when their match against Sweden was abandoned at 3-3, when Christian Poulsen threw his toys out of the pram after a controversial late penalty award late on. Since then though Morten Olsen's side have beaten Latvia and Liechtenstein, scoring six goals in the process, and drawn in Sweden. Everyone knows Spain have outstanding players and they have already beaten Denmark 2-1 in Madrid in the Euro 2008 qualifiers. However, their football does tend to suffer from travel sickness, losing twice on the road so far this campaign and drawing 1-1 on their last trip to Iceland. Luis Aragones's side must also make do without injured striker David Villa - so 9/4 about the draw looks the value here. Verdict: 3pts Germany @ 9/10 (Paddy Power/Skybet); 2pts Iceland @ Evens (General); 2pts Denmark to draw with Spain @ 9/4 (Bet365, Coral); 1pt treble on Germany, Iceland and Denmark to draw with Spain @ 11.37/1 (SportingBet).
