Get me out of here: Jason Donovan 3/1
It's time once again for the award-winning but decidedly tacky reality TV show, I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here. However, looking at the contestants for the sixth series of this show, it looks more like a case of I am no longer a celeb - get me in there! With all due respect, and that's not very much at all, the producers have really scraped the barrel this time. It's been bad before, but this year's renewal takes the biscuit. Whether you love them or loath them, Ant and Dec's irreverent commentary of proceedings is just about the only positive to draw from a jungle of negatives. The testosterone vote will undoubtedly go to one of the glamorous duo of Myleene Klass and Phina Oruche, especially the former, whom bookmakers William Hill make 1/2 favourite to reveal her breasts in the jungle first. Hope springs eternal. However, if they play on their looks, as one suspects they might, then they will probably irritate the female viewer. And, one imagines, a large proportion of those tuning in will be female. In any case, I reckon that it will be a male that wins this series - In fact I'm pretty confident about that. There has been something of a plunge of Jason Donovan to prevail, and he is a best-priced 3/1 favourite with VC Bet at the time of writing. Indeed, Donovan is an affable, pleasant chap, who, despite the well documented drug problems he has had over the years, still has something of a wholesome image about him owing to the memories of his part as Scott in Neighbours. Who can forget Scott and Charlene? Ahhh. But I wonder whether he might be perceived as being a tad too boring, especially amongst the younger audience. To be fair, he doesn't really have any pizzazz about him, which is something that viewers like to see in reality TV show contestants - think Pete from Big Brother. This brings me to the recommended bet, Matt Willis, formerly of boy band Busted, who is well worth a couple of quid of anyone's money at 9/2 with VC Bet Matt, who has admitted to two spells in The Priory rehab clinic for alcoholism, recently had a big bust-up, if you pardon the pun, with old Busted bandmate James Bourne. Bourne advised Willis against going into the jungle, suggesting that it would be 'career suicide'. Taking about as much notice of Bourne's advice as the average boy racer takes of 20 mile per hour speed limits, Willis opted to go into the jungle and it might just pay off. After all, he's the only contestant with any quirks about him - the rest are comparatively bland, or just down right weird (think David Gest...yikes!). Matt Willis, who carried the weight of expectation on his shoulders going into his solo career having been dubbed the 'new Robbie Williams', has not scaled the heights anticipated in that sphere so far - his last single 'Hey Kid' went into the charts at a thoroughly unimpressive No 28 - but he does have character. And it's his idiosyncrasies that will set him apart from the rest. Verdict - 2pts Matt Willis @ 9/2 (VC Bet )
