GLORIOUS GOODWOOD BETTING TIPS AND PREDICTIONS FOR JULY 27 PART ONE

We’ve got some really quality races set to go tomorrow and we’ll be taking a glance at all of the races on the Goodwood card for Tuesday, July 27. There’s some group level racing to take advantage of and anybody who can navigate the large fields will be enjoying some serious dividends.
In the Betfair App for Iphone Stakes at 2:10 I’ll likely be playing top-weighted Godolphin charge Yamal (Green Desert) who has won at a mile over the Goodwood surface and has shown acumen when stepping up a furlong. He had a solid run at Nad Al Sheba last year and is lightly-raced so far this season running 23 in his opening two. I think the key will be getting him to sit back a bit as his losses tend to come after he’s been pushed a bit too early. Dettori aboard for the trip makes sense to me. Tartan Gigha (Green Desert) is rather heavily-raced for my likings but his score in the Investec Derby at Epsom bodes confidence. The other Godolphin runner here is more than worth a shot though with Roman Republic (Cape Cross) set for his first run since the Meydan meet in March. He scored at Glorious Goodwood last year, nabbing the Summer Vase Stakes Handicap when sent off at 9/2 against a field of 16 over the exact same distance. I will be playing an all-Godolphin reverse-forecast here.

The Betfair Gordon Stakes is a Group 3 encounter going 1m4f in what should be a very dynamic contest. Godolphin have Film Score (Street Cry) and this lightly-raced bay gelding looks perfectly suited for this type of race. I think the step up in trip is going to be the key variable here for him and Street Cry’s generally excel at 1m4f (Zenyatta anybody??) so I think he could be a great selection here. He scored on his debut against classy company and then ran 4/15 on his step up to the listed circuit at Ascot. I think he needed a bit of extra distance there and really didn’t run a very good race despite finishing fourth. Big bet to improve here. Arctic Cosmos (North Light) looks a there-or-thereabouts type while Theology (Galileo) boasts a course and distance reference that you won’t find elsewhere. I’ve got Film Score on top of both Arctic Cosmos and Theology.
The Betfair Cup (also known as the Lennox Stakes) is a solid Group 2 encounter and this one is complicated by the four horses with course/distance victories here. AP O’Brien’s Air Chief Marshal (Danehill Dancer) looks the pick for me as he’s well-weighted for this one and comes off two victories on the bounce. Red Jazz ran 8/19 in the 2000 Guineas when sent off at 66/1. He’s been fairly heavily-raced though so I think that counts against him. The big variable here is Group 2 winner Balthazaar’s Gift (Xaar) who is top-weighted and steps down from mediocre results in four straight Group 1 races. He has shown better quality over 7f than 6f and I think the step up will benefit him. Hamdan Al Maktoum’s Finjaan (Royal Applause) is defending his title here and has been laid off since a single run at Meydan that was the definition of forgettable. Not many references there but he did beat Balthazaar’s Gift in that race. I think Air Chief Marshal will take this one, but it will be very very tight.
