GLORIOUS GOODWOOD DAY ONE BETTING TIPS AND PREDICTIONS PART TWO

We’re back with the second part of our preview for the opening day of Glorious Goodwood- one of the premier events in English flat racing. We’ve got a great line-up of action ahead of us and, despite some very big fields, I think there’s some excellent opportunities to cash in a big strike.

We’ve got a fascinating clash of two year-olds in the Group 3 Betfair Molecomb Stakes. These ones can sometimes be a bit of a crap-shoot and it makes it a bit tougher as the contenders here boast some impressive records without any one of them being a true standout. Bold Bidder (Indesatchel) is my main selection here and she just missed out on a victory in the Weatherby’s Super Sprint at Newbury, finishing 2nd from 24. Style and Panache (Trans Island) doesn’t boast the greatest recent record but she’s been running at a higher level than most of the company here and I think the Irish Invader could be worth a bash on a double-digit price.
At 4:35 at Goodwood we’ve got a massive field contesting the Tatler Summer Season Stakes which is a very complex handicap and I think many punters may veer towards top-weighted Benandonner (Giant’s Causeway) who boasts some solid recent form. I think Truism (Daylami) and Ryan Moore could progress to get it done here as they’ve got more experience on the Goodwood surface than many others do. He was a beaten 3/1 favourite last time out and could step up to grab that elusive score as I think he’s well-weighted in a race that could go to a tactical speed type.
The 5:05 is a 6f race for 2 year-old maidens and the big gamble here looks to be whether Straight Line (Refuse to Bend) is a progressive sort or not. The bay colt was headed on the last stride when going 6 ½ furlongs at Ascot earlier this month. Unless there is a breakout star here I think he should get this one and the drop in distance should pay dividends. My clear second choice here is Frankie Dettori on top of Golden Hinde (Red Ransom) who was tackling a bit too much distance in a 7f debut at Redcar. He had every chance going into the last bit and just couldn’t hold on for the extra furlong. An each-way forecast on these two is the order of the day for me.
Nicky Henderson sends out one of his jumpers in the 5:40 Roa Summer Stakes and that adds a bit of an interesting element to this one. Sentry Duty (Kahyasi) was at this year’s Cheltenham Festival and ran in the Grade 1 Ladbrokes World Hurdle. He had a go on the flat at Ascot and actually performed fairly well there running 6/18. The veteran 8 year-old will have to contend with three other quality contenders here with Godolphin’s Anhar (Kingmambo) being my pick of the crop. He conquered a rough start at Haydock on July 3 to capture the Bet365.com Handicap when sent off at 10/1. I think Saeed Bin Suroor has done well to insert him into the beatable field and I think we’ll know whether he has a shot or not when we’re about 2f out. Sir Michael Stoute’s Jedi (Pivotal) has plenty of potential but didn’t impress in his only run at Goodwood. I think he needs to chase the leaders so positioning will be very important here. On the opposite end of the spectrum is Woolfall Treasure (Daylami) who just scored at Goodwood in mid-June when sent off at 11/2 against a field of 8. He is a staying sort and that might be what it takes to win here. This is a very tough one but I like Anhar and Woolfall Treasure to be the key players.
