Goalscorer Preview - Birmingham City v Manchester United: Dimitar Berbatov
- By Lewis Doe on December 28, 2010 09:00 GMTDimitar Berbatov will be on the hunt for more goals following an impressive brace against Sunderland on Boxing Day.
Berbatov has scored 13 Premier League goals this season and has carried the side as Wayne Rooney’s drought without a goal from open play continues. The Bulgarian is looking every bit of value for the money the club paid for him.
Berbatov has put in a number of impressive solo performances this season when his team has needed it. His hat-trick against Liverpool, his five goals against Blackburn Rovers and now his brace against Sunderland have all added to the club’s current league position.
Sir Alex Ferguson has been prone to playing a five man midfield when United have travelled to a hostile ground. However, there is no need to change things for the sake of changing them and United should stick with a 4-4-2.
What makes 4-4-2 so efficient with this United team is that Berbatov can drop off from the very top of the side at a second’s notice. He is at his best when he has the ball at his feet and there is no better way for him to achieve this than playing in the midfield at various points throughout a game.
When he does this he starts to drag players out of position and this creates extra space. The Bulgarian can use the pace he does have to exploit this space and it means he is more efficient and accurate when he decides to rain shots in on the opposition goal.
Berbatov has always been a player that plays at his best when he is in form and scoring goals. United have to make the most of his good form now because he doesn’t always cut the most inspiring figure when he goes a few games without a goal.
Berbatov is a very good bet to score first in this game at a price of 5/1, he is also 7/5 to score at any point during the game.
