Goalscorer Preview - Chelsea v Manchester United: Nani
- By Lewis Doe on December 19, 2010 09:00 GMTThis will be a massive game for Manchester United’s Portuguese winger and creative midfielder Nani.
Nani has looked a better player this season than in all the time he has been at Manchester United. Sir Alex Ferguson has given him a regular run of games and he’s terrorised opposition defences down either side of the pitch.
When United play a 4-4-2 formation Nani is given more opportunity to attack a defence with his pace and skill. However, he is now the best at the club at hogging a wide area of the pitch, which allows Ferguson to put an extra man in the central part of the team.
His goal tally is also improving and he has scored a total of nine so far this season in all competitions. He would like his ratio to be slightly higher in the Premier League but there is still roughly half the season to go and time for him to work on this.
The main criticism of Nani from United staff and supporters is that he needed to improve his final delivery into the box once he got beyond the full-back. This has improved and a total of eight assists this season is proof. He’s much better at getting beyond the full-back, bring others into play and creating easy goal scoring chances.
Another area of his game he was told to work on and improve was cutting back inside to the middle of the pitch and shooting at goal. He now does this much more effectively, which means he will naturally create more chances for himself to score.
Nani is a very good bet to score against Chelsea and is well priced at 10/1 to score the first goal of the game. He’s also a good bet at 7/2 to score at any point during the match.
