Goalscorer Preview Manchester United v Blackburn Rovers: Wayne Rooney
- By Lewis Doe on November 26, 2010 18:00 GMTSir Alex Ferguson will find it difficult to keep Wayne Rooney under control following his goal against Rangers in the Champions League.
Rooney played quite well against Rangers and looked a constant threat in the United attack. There are still clear signs that he is a little rusty due to the way he scuffed a few chances and even shinned one over the bar from about seven yards out.
However, he was carrying himself around the pitch in a good manner and looked as though he was enjoying himself. His fitness looks good and Ferguson will see it as an obvious choice to start Rooney against Blackburn.
He seemed to enjoy playing along Dimitar Berbatov again and the pair should start in a two man attack. Rooney drops off from the play and hovers on the edge of the defence, which makes him very difficult to defend against.
The fact that Rooney has only scored two goals so far this season will put a lot of people off from backing him. However, at 10/3 to score the first goal and 10/11 to score at any time there will be a lot of money being spent on the striker throughout the market.
What makes Rooney such an attractive player to back to score is the fact that whenever he has shown determination in his career, he has looked menacing every time he goes out onto the pitch. His celebration after scoring against Rangers was a release of pressure and frustration.
There will still be people questioning Rooney over his recent comments and apparent desire to leave United. However, what cannot be ignored is that when he has the bit between his teeth and looks as though he can score goals, there is no one better in the game to do so.
