Goalscorer Preview - Manchester United v Sunderland: Park Ji-Sung
- By Lewis Doe on December 26, 2010 09:00 GMTVersatile midfielder Park Ji-Sung is in superb form that should continue in the game against Sunderland.
Park has scored important goals this season in matches against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Arsenal. The South Korean winger seems to be enjoying the extended run that Sir Alex Ferguson has given him in the team.
Park is one of the first names down on the team sheet because he gives Ferguson so many options. He is good enough in attack to get forward and create a lot of goalscoring opportunities but he is equally effective in defence when helping out the full-back.
Very few players in the United squad and the Premier League can switch from an attacking to a defensive mentality so easily and then back again. Park’s fitness is also superb and this allows him to either of these roles effectively over 90 minutes.
Park is one of the more disciplined players in the United team and because of this he will always have longer odds as a possible goalscorer. He is currently a best price of 11/1 to score the first goal against Sunderland and 4/1 to score at any point during the game.
Park has already scored more goals in total this season than he did during the entirety of last season. There is still over half of the season left for him to add to his tally of eight goals and there is no reason at all why he shouldn’t do this.
Park relies on his pace to get into advanced attacking positions because he doesn’t have the physical strength needed to bully most defences. This means he can cut inside or attack the full-back with pace and venom that is very difficult to defend against.
A lot of people will overlook Park as a possible goalscorer against Sunderland but he’s now a main component of the way United play football. He seems content and confident, which is only going to benefit the team.
