Goalscorer Preview - West Bromwich Albion v Manchester United: Ryan Giggs
- By Lewis Doe on January 1, 2011 08:30 GMTRyan Giggs is one of the most experienced and dangerous players in the Manchester United team.
Giggs has not always been in the spotlight because of the number of talented and gifted attacking players at United throughout the years. However, he has formed a reputation as one of the most reliable central and wide midfield players in the league.
Giggs has been asked to play more games than may be ideal over the recent past. His fitness is being fully tested owing to the fact that Park Ji-Sung is away representing South Korea and Nani has been in and out of the side also battling with his own fitness.
However, this doesn’t seem to matter because Giggs is one of the few players that Sir Alex Ferguson can rely on to give his all every time he goes out and represents the club. There are a lot of young players in the current United side and Giggs helps to provide a necessary air of calm and assurance.
What makes Giggs so difficult to play against is that he is equally effective playing down the left wing or in the middle of the pitch. His passing and vision is superb and he very rarely gives the ball away in any game.
He also has the experience of having played over 800 games for the club. This means he knows exactly how to react and adapt to different situations. It also means he has a better idea than most players of where to be on the pitch during crucial phases of a match.
He’s only scored one goal so far this season but this is simply because he hasn’t been given the run of games in the team that he’s previously enjoyed. Now that he is getting that chance, it’s the perfect time to back him as a potential goalscorer.
Giggs seems as good as he as ever been in a United shirt and he’s a great bet to score at any time during this game at 4/1. He’s also well priced to bag the first goal of the match at odds of 12/1.
