Golf: Fred has a bonnie chance at the Loch
Freddie Jacobson is the man VC Bet are doing their best to avoid laying at this week's Scottish Open on the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond. Accordingly, the stylish Swede is chalked up at an industry-low 28/1 to go one better than his 2002 play-off defeat to Argentina's Eduardo Romero. "Jacobson has a sound record here and has shown some useful form in America over the last few weeks," said VC Bet's golf man Richard Friend. "He'll be busting a gut to try and qualify for next week's Open and he knows that the best finish by a non-exempt player will probably see him heading to St Andrews." Course virgin Luke Donald 16/1 is surprisingly Friend's other Loch Lomond fancy. "He might not have any course experience but he makes so few mistakes on a golf course that I'll be very surprised if he's not in the thick of the action over the weekend. "This Tom Weiskopf designed course has proved to be a home from home for many American players in the past and I have no doubt that it will suit the Chicago-based player." With Jacobson and Donald ducked, Friend said that he's happy to take on the rest of the market leaders this week. "Phil Mickelson will start playing trick shots if he loses touch with the leaders and, despite the obvious threats of Ernie Els, Retief Goosen and Adam Scott, I'd be looking to lay them here as their energies will almost certainly be channelled into peaking for next week."
