GRAND PRIX DARTS BETTING ODDS
Phil Taylor begins the defence of his Grand Prix title this evening as the world’s elite darts players head to Dublin for this unique tournament.
Unlike any other competition on the PDC circuit this one has a double in, double out format, by which I mean that the players have to begin their turn with a double and, as ever, finish on a double. Therefore the format greatly favours players who are confident and accurate with their double hitting and punishes those who aren’t.
One player who certainly falls into the category of ‘double struggler’ is Scotsman Gary Anderson. The man nicknamed ‘Dreamboy’ has built his reputation and career on power scoring, but has never fulfilled his potential due to an inherent inability to consistently hit the doubles.
I have no doubt that the sheer prospect of this format will be giving Anderson sleepless nights and he could struggle tonight against Ronnie Baxter. Odds of 11/8 with Sportingbet on the Englishman look to be well worth a bet.
Phil Taylor will be battling not only his opponent but also the crowd as he takes on Northern Irishman Brendan Dolan. Bwin offer odds just 1/19 on the World Champion maintaining his winning streak in major tournaments, Dolan is 8/1 to cause an almighty upset.
In football news Roy Hodgson looks to be feeling the pressure at Anfield after Liverpool slipped into the bottom three with defeat at home to Blackpool. The former Fulham manager admitted that his side are in a relegation fight and that “things are looking really, really bleak.”
Liverpool face Everton at Goodison Park when Premier League action returns following the international break. Anything less than maximum points for the Reds will increase the pressure on Hodgson even further, and the current odds of 5/1 with BlueSquare on him being the next Premier League manager to be sacked look tempting.
