Gut news for Romero and friends?

Andres Romero can maintain his sensational form at the Deutsche Bank Players Championship of Europe at Gut Kaden at 28/1. The little-known Argentinian almost made a name for himself at The Open at the weekend and was leading with two holes to go before blowing up on the 17th after a round including an incredible ten birdies. It is tempting to think that the mental strain of coming so close will have taken its toll on the 26-year-old but evidence would suggest he is an adaptable player in a rich vein of form. Romero came second in the 2006 Scottish Open before finishing eighth at Hoylake and then fourth at the Players Championship of Europe and the signs are that he likes this time of year. Twelve months on he has finished third in The Open and can be expected to carry his form to Germany. It is difficult to ignore Niclas Fasth to do well here because he so often does. Although he will be disappointed with his Open performance the Swede did not disgrace himself in Scotland and has had a hugely impressive year. A winner on his last visit to Germany, Fasth has also come fourth in the US Open this year and first and second in his past two outings. He also won in Hamburg two years ago and finished fourth in 2003. Fasth is favourite but those are some Swede statistics. Markus Brier is another worth looking out for. After wonderful opening and closing rounds at Carnoustie that saw him finish in twelfth place the suggestion is that the Austrian is returning to the form that saw him win the China Open earlier this summer before coming fifth and second in his two subsequent tournaments. Being so close to his homeland Brier can improve on his 28th here last year and is worth taking each way at 66/1. Verdict: 2pts Romero to @ 28/1 (Bet365); 2pts Fasth @ 12/1 (general); 1pt e/w Brier @ 66/1 (general)
