Hatton vs Pacquiao Fight May be Cancelled
Fans of British boxing sensation Ricky Hatton will be dismayed and confused by recent developments from the Manny Pacquiao camp demanding a 60/40 split in favour of Pacquiao, as opposed to the previous 50/50 agreement. The fight, slated for May 2 in Las Vegas is now in jeopardy as team Hatton reacts to the news with shock and disgust. "Do they honestly believe Pacquiao-Mayweather is going to do significantly more PPV figures than a Pacquiao-Hatton fight?" asked Gareth Williams, lawyer and legal council to Hatton. Rumors of Floyd Mayweather's return from retirement have been circulating for several months, but many pundits had pegged his return to a bout featuring the winner of Hatton-Pacquiao. With one of the largest armies of support in boxing, Hatton brings something to the table that Mayweather simply can't- volume. With an entire country behind him, each fight is a battle for national pride when your name is Ricky Hatton. At the moment, Manny Pacquiao is the favourite to defeat Hatton should the fight go ahead on May 2nd. Listed at 2/5 with 888sport compared to Hatton's 7/4, the betting volume coming out of great Britain would be tremendous with Hatton listed at evens or better always tempting a mass of punts from the betting public. Many have wondered why, exactly, the fight was being held in Vegas anyway. A bout at London's ExCeL Arena or perhaps Eastlands would have drawn an incredible instant sell-out, but Pacquiao's camp are likely determined to avoid giving Hatton the homefield advantage. Either way, boxing enthusiasts will be keeping their eyes keenly fixed on the outcome of this issue, as I will be backing Hatton to record an incredible upset should the fight go on.
