Hurricane Run - update from Curragh
Brilliant Arc winner Hurricane Run made a thoroughly pleasing seasonal reappearance when making all to easily beat Alexander Goldrun by seven lengths in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at The Curragh on Sunday. The three-runner affair was hardly an ideal race for Hurricane Run, in that he is better suited to farther than the ten-furlong trip of Sunday's race, and is at his most effective when coming from off the pace in a strongly-run race. As such, this was a pretty awesome display from the son of Montjeu. It's hard to see what can beat Hurricane Run over middle distances this season and Coral have priced up the King George VI Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes, which takes place at Ascot in July, and make Andre Fabre's star 6/4 favourite. Ladbrokes and Hill have compiled books for this year's Arc and both make Hurricane Run their 11/4 market leader. The likely plan for Hurricane Run is now for him to take in the King George, then perhaps an Arc trial like the Prix Foy, before the Arc itself and, one would suspect he'll then head to the US in November for a crack at the Breeders' Cup Turf, a race his trainer won with In The Wings and Shirocco last year. French trainer Fabre holds a strong hand in the middle distance ranks, also boasting Shirocco, who is a warm order for the Coronation Cup at Epsom on Friday, Visindar, hot favourite for Saturday's Vodafone Derby, and Linda's Lad, winner of the Lingfield Derby Trial who also heads for Flat racing's blue riband at the weekend. Visindar is currently a top-priced 2/1 with Sporting Odds for the Epsom Derby, while Linda's Lad can be backed at 14/1 but is as short as 10/1 in places.
