INDIA VS. AUSTRALIA- 1ST TEST – DAY FIVE- BETTING ODDS
With yet another scintillating fourth day's play, a late Ben Hilfenhaus rally saw Australia pulled right back into the first test of the Border-Gavaskar test series.
India did phenomenally well to pull themselves back into this match after giving Australia a 23 run lead in the first innings, by bowling Australia out for 192 in their second innings.
However, India were immediately up against it in their second innings losing opener Gambhir for a duck, followed by the swift dismissals of other stalwarts in the form of Sehwag, Dravid, as well as Indian young talent Raina.
Ben Hilfenhaus ripped through the top order in a late spell that has left India reeling. This spell has single handedly turned the odds on its head, with the bookies initially seeing a 215 fourth innings target as very do-able with the batting depth at India's disposal.
However, with India currently poised at 55/4, most cricket enthusiasts would safely lay claim to yet another Australian victory.
With that said, Tendulkar is still at the wicket- fresh off a gritty 98 in the first innings- with Dhoni to come. These two alone have the ability to see them through, however with an entire days play to come, Australia will certainly fancy their chances of going 1-0 up in the series.
At present William Hill have Australia at 1.53 to India's 2.37
There are some good odds on the ‘Indian batsmen to score a 50’ scenarios. Sachin Tendulkar is tops at 2.12, with VVS Laxman next up at 2.26. Laxman who is suffering an injury had let it be known that he will bat if needed, however a 50 to his name might warrant longer odds than this.
Dhoni is well placed at 2.27 a likely scenario, as this talent is able adjust his style of play to suit the scenario when needed
Another great bet can be seen on tomorrow's ‘opening over run tally’. William Hill have the Over/Under 2.5 scenario placed at 1.67-under, and 2.10- over.
One would imagine that the batsmen won’t be going full tilt first up tomorrow, with an entire day's play still left, and that the ‘Under’ scenario here is rather safe
Another promising bet is that of predicting India next method of dismissal.
‘Caught’ will see odds at 1.61, with 'Any other method' at 2.2. With night-watchman Zaheer Khan at the wicket, I would be putting good money on some tight bowling first up, and hence him being trapped LBW or bowled first up.
Fans are in for a riveting fifth day of cricket with this game poised towards the way of the Australians.
However, as proven in the past, nobody enjoys raining on the parade of the Australians more than India, and with Tendulkar and Dhoni still in the mix...this gamecould go anyway.
Betting Tip: India's next dismissal method: ‘Any Other’ at 2.2
