JERRY BROWN EXTENDING LEAD OVER MEG WHITMAN IN CALIFORNIA GOVERNOR RACE
We brought you a snapshot of the European betting odds for the California Governors’ race and it looks like Housekeeper-gate has kept Meg Whitman from stopping the bleeding and Jerry Brown has extended his lead.
As it currently stands, Jerry Brown has seen his odds drop from 8/11 to 1/2 with popular Irish bookmaker Paddy Power. Brown continues to secure endorsements- the latest one coming from the LA Times. Though the LA Times did declare that they consider both candidates “fall short of our (California’s) current needs” they still endorsed Brown.
This is a prime example of just how badly mismanaged Whitman’s campaign really has been- if you can’t win the “better of two evils” competition then you shouldn’t even be campaigning- much less blowing tens of millions of your own money into it.
Meg Whitman’s odds to win the California Gubernatorial race are now listed by Paddy Power at a 6/4 price tag.
For reference, a £100 wager on Jerry Brown would reward at £150 all-told while £100 on Meg Whitman would pay out at £250. This makes Brown a heavy odds-on favourite to win the race and it looks like Meg Whitman needs to do something quickly if she is going to swing the odds back into her favour.
Brown and Whitman have pulled out of a radio debate on KGO scheduled for Tuesday. Both declined to give a reason.
Whitman’s housekeeper drama really looks like it was the beginning of the end for the former Ebay CEO and you have to reckon that her reaction to the whole situation pretty much killed her chances of wrapping up the Hispanic vote.
With California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger probably itching to get out of the governors’ mansion – you have to respect Jerry Brown for a) being the lesser of two evils and b) actually wanting the gig in the first place.
