JOHN TERRY ENGLAND CAPTAIN LATEST BETTING ODDS
It looks like tomorrow is D-Day for John Terry and his status as England captain. He is scheduled for a head-to-head sit down with England manager Fabio Capello to discuss whether he will stay on as England captain through the 2010 World Cup. The allegations of infidelity are becoming Tiger Woods-like as it is now coming to light that the Sun newspaper has lined up nearly 8 or 9 other women who claim that they all had affairs with the married Chelsea and England captain.
While a divorce bill in the mid 7 figures would likely ruin nearly anyone’s day, the fact that Terry could be losing his spot as England captain (and with it lots of endorsements and high-profile gigs) is likely a worse scenario for him career-wise. If avoiding a divorce settlement and staying true to the mother of his children wasn’t enough of a deterrent to nail the slag girlfriend of a co-worker, then I think he deserves everything he gets. People who cheat on their spouse are narcissistic cowards and can never aspire to be any more than that.
The betting markets seem rather confused about what’s actually going to happen. Steven Gerrard has emerged as the likely candidate to take the reigns from Terry, with the Betfair layers dropping his price significantly over the past 48 hours. Wayne Rooney’s odds of becoming the next England captain seem to be becoming less and less likely as he now trades at 6.2 from his previous low of 3.0. Steven Gerrard remains priced at an even 3.0 and Rio Ferdinand now looks to be entering the equation at 4.2.
John Terry’s price to remain as England captain now trades at 2.22 a slight uptick from yesterday.
They say that a man’s personal life and his work shouldn’t interfere, but John Terry has shown himself to be an untrustworthy person and you simply can’t have that as an English captain. I never considered him that great of a leader anyway and I think bringing in a new captain before the world cup will definitely add a boost to the team as opposed to a distraction.
