JOHN TERRY LATEST BETTING ODDS SHOW STEVEN GERRARD AS NEXT ENGLAND CAPTAIN
Today, under-fire England captain John Terry announced that he would not resign as the leader of the English National Football team and insists that the decision will be made by Fabio Capello alone. Personally, I am in favour of Terry going. I think that he’s lost the dressing room and I certainly wouldn’t enjoy taking orders or pretending to have respect for somebody who would do what he did to a fellow team-mate. How can you ever believe he’s going to really have your back or be somebody you can trust on the field when he’s proven himself so untrustworthy otherwise?
Regardless, the decision looks set to be made on Friday as Terry has plans for a sit-down with Capello and the England brass. The betting markets on this have been in full-swing for the past several days and you’ll notice that the volume on the Betfair market for next England Captain has been growing steadily.
Initially, it looked like the in-form Wayne Rooney may be handed the reigns for the 2010 World Cup captaincy, but in the past 24 hours or so Steven Gerrard has emerged as a distinct favourite to be named the next England captain.
Currently, John Terry is paying out above evens to remain as England captain at a price of 2.12. He had been odds-on to stay previously this week and his price seems to be heading northward. Steven Gerrard now trades at a mere 2.64 to be named the next England captain. Wayne Rooney has seen his odds rise to 4.8 from the 3.05 he was at earlier in the week.
Rio Ferdinand appears to be in the running at 9/6 while Frank Lampard trades at 13.5. Gareth Barry can be backed at 23.0 while David Beckham has seen his odds cut in half to 15.0.
