LABOUR WIN BY EIGHTY SEATS - WANNA BET?.......Bookmakers William Hill predict that betting turnover on the General Election will for the first time match that of the FA Cup Final, with ten million pounds resting on the outcome of both events. 'Political betting has come of age with this campaign and it is significant that for the first time an eight figure sum will be gambled on the General Election'. said William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe.Hills are expecting Labour to win with a majority of over 81 seats after punters plunged cash on that figure, making the odds 4/5, while Hills are offering 5/4 that the majority comes in at 80 or under. The largest bet struck on the outcome of the Election is one of £100,000 on Labour to be the largest single party, at odds of 1/11, which will give the customer a profit of just over £9000 if successful. The largest bet on a Conservative win is £10,000.**LABOUR are 1/20 to win with an overall majority with Hills who make the Conservatives 14/1 to do likewise with the Lib-Dems at 150/1 and hung Parliament offered at 11/1.**Hills are offering odds of 9/2 that Tony Blair will continue in office if he wins, for long enough to eclipse Margaret Thatcher's reign of eleven and a half years as Prime Minister, but they also offer odds of 2/1 that Gordon Brown (1/6 favourite to succeed Tony Blair, with Charles Clarke at 13/2 and Alan Milburn 12/1) will become Prime Minister in the year 2007. The other bad news for the PM is that William Hill customers expect his Sedgefield constutuency majority to be drastically cut from its current 17,000plus, to 12,000 or less - which has been shortened from 10/1 to 7/2.**William Hill are quoting odds about the level of turnout for the Election and offer 7/1 that it will be Under 54%; 12/1 that it will be over 70% but make 60-61.99% their 3/1 favourite.**William Hill are betting on what colour shirt each of the main party leaders will wear at their constituency, and make Tony Blair 1/2 favourite to wear White - and 14/1 to wear Red; Michael Howard is 5/4 to wear White and 5/4 to wear party Blue; Charles Kennedy is 11/8 to wear White; 11/4 Blue and 4/1 party Yellow.**One William Hill customer from Oxford will win £100 if Tony Blair is deemed to have a better sun-tan - fake or real - that fellow election candidate, Robert Kilroy-Silk (7/1 to win in Erewarsh) on Election Day. The customer staked £20 at odds of 5/1.WILLIAM HILL have already opened their book on the NEXT General Election, making Labour 4/9 favourites to win it; Tony Blair 3/1 to lead them into it; with the Conservatives 13/8 to win it - Michael Howard 3/1 to lead them into it (but 4/1 to have been replaced by David Davis and 14/1 by William Hague) and the Lib Dems 50/1. What's more, Hills are also betting on which year that Election will take place in - making 2009 the 4/7 favourite with 2010 2/1; 2008 8/1 - and quoting 20/1 that there will be another General Election this year.
